Description:

Social media can be positive in many ways, but it can also impact young people's mental health and wellbeing. This guide focuses on supporting young people affected by content related to suicide.

Young people need support from parents, caregivers and other adults in their lives, to help keep their personal social media spaces safe.

The information sheets below offer ways to support young people to manage their online presence, and ensure they have the skills, tools and confidence needed to navigate the complex online world.

These resources are part of the Navigating Social Media Safely series, and were commissioned by the Suicide Prevention Office, within the Ministry of Health, with Alight and Social Good. Expertise and experience from rangatahi, suicide prevention sector, matauranga māori, researchers and lived experience helped shaped these resources.
