Boost wellbeing, increase inclusion, help end bullying and support our mahi by getting your workplace involved in campaigns like Pink Shirt Day, Mental Health Awareness Week and more.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) is our annual campaign supporting New Zealanders to understand what improves their mental health, by providing simple tips and tricks to boost their wellbeing.

MHAW is marked in over 150 countries at different times of the year and has been run by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand since 1993.

We know there isn’t just one way to improve wellbeing. Each year we select a different theme for the week, to provide kaimahi/employees with new tips and tools they can implement during MHAW and beyond.

There are lots of ways you can get your workplace involved in MHAW, including by accessing resources; downloading the MHAW Guide for activity ideas; organising an event for kaimahi; and more. Find further ways to participate in MHAW with your workplace at mhaw.nz

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day (PSD) is the day that Aotearoa comes together to take a stand against bullying. Celebrated annually around the globe, Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying (after a new student was harassed for wearing pink).

The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand has been running the campaign in Aotearoa since 2012.

Pink Shirt Day is about reducing bullying by celebrating diversity in all its forms and supporting schools, workplaces and communities to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive environments for all.

By wearing pink in your workplace on Pink Shirt Day, you’re showing your aroha and commitment to creating a kinder, more inclusive Aotearoa where everyone feels safe, valued and respected regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion or cultural background.

There are many ways to get your workplace involved in Pink Shirt Day, including by accessing our PSD workplace guide and other useful resources; hosting a pink morning tea, or organising a fundraising event. For more ideas on how to celebrate Pink Shirt Day in your workplace, head to Pink Shirt Day website.

Move for Mental Health

Move for Mental Health is a fundraising initiative to get people moving – for their own mental health, and for the mental health of Aotearoa.

Regular movement is proven to boost our wellbeing and decrease stress, depression and anxiety. Just like mental health, movement looks different for everyone – there are lots of ways you can move your tinana/body.

As well as being active, you will also be raising funds for the Mental Health Foundation, to create an Aotearoa where all people can enjoy positive mental health and wellbeing.

Sign up for an event with your hoamahi/colleagues – or create your own! Visit the Move for Mental Health website to find out more.
