Mental health promotion is an effective, and cost-efficient, way to enhance wellbeing for all. But what does mental health promotion look like from a te ao Māori perspective, and how can it be adapted for use in a by Māori, for Māori way?

This factsheet looks at Māori views of mental health, and Māori mental health promotion examples and models. It includes some recommendations to support Māori mental health promotion when developing policy this election, in alignment with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

This resource was created alongside the mātauranga or wisdom of our Māori Engagement team – ngā mihi whakawhetai ki a koutou.

It will be shared with Aotearoa’s political parties and the public, so we can advocate for change together.
