This part time (20 hours) role sits within the Nōku Te Ao Programme team, a small, motivated and engaged group dedicated to reducing stigma and discrimination against those experiencing mental distress. This role will support this by bringing a Lived Experience lens to Nōku Te Ao wananga, hui, and written communications, facilitating conversation and connections.

We are looking for an experienced Health Promoter, who is empathetic, proactive, resourceful and a strong communicator. You will have skill as a Lived Experience Advisor, and knowledge of the mental health system.

 

What you will do:

  • Organise and facilitate wānanga, hui and online based communications with multiple stakeholders and community group
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with Māori, Pacific providers, and other lived experience networks.
  • Attend community meetings and webinars to collect information about lived experience community topics
  • Contribute to report writing and communications to government and other stakeholders.
  • Embed an understanding of tikanga Māori and Te Ao Māori into your work

You will have:

  • Qualified and/or practical experience in public health, mental health, or health promotion
  • Previous experience and awareness around the complexity of working in the lived experience space
  • Passion for systemic change in mental health services and/or experience in relationship management within the mental health sector.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Collaborative nature with strong networking and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies and cultural groups.
  • Understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for New Zealand’s response to improving mental wellbeing, or a willingness to extend knowledge of Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally.

The salary band for this role is $35,000 - $39,500 (0.5FTE of $70,000- $79,000) and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's skills and experience.
