Leave a gift in your will

Help build a mentally healthy Aotearoa New Zealand for future generations.

Grandad and grandchild

By leaving a bequest to the Mental Health Foundation you will help future generations – your children, grandchildren, and their children – grow up in a country that treasures and prioritises mental health and wellbeing.

Your gift will help build a future where people facing tough times know they are not alone and can access the tools they need to thrive.

We value and appreciate your consideration as a future bequestor and hope you will join us by using a part of your legacy to support a brighter future for everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Why leave a gift in your will?

Happy family

Creating or updating your Will is an important way to ensure your wishes are honoured and your legacy lives on. By having a valid and up-to-date Will, you can make sure the people and causes you care about most are looked after.

Leaving a gift in your Will, even 1% of your estate, to the Mental Health Foundation is a meaningful way to reflect your values and support mental wellbeing across Aotearoa.

Your gift, no matter the size, will help us care for communities, promote mental health, and build a brighter, healthier future for generations to come. We promise to honour and respect your legacy and the trust you place in us.

It is important to us that you take care of your loved ones first. You may wish to let your close whānau and friends know of your intentions, and why you've chosen to make a bequest to the Mental Health Foundation.

FAQs

All bequests are appreciated, no matter the size. Bequests can include:

  • a specified amount of money
  • a percentage of your estate
  • the residue of your estate after others in your Will are provided for.

To avoid creating unnecessary work for your loved ones, it’s important the wording is accurate. Our suggested wording to use in your Will is as follows:

I give to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand (CC11140) xx% share of my residuary estate [or] the sum of $xx [or] the following property or assets [insert here]for its general purposes and declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive of the Foundation or other proper officer shall be sufficient discharge for my Trustee.

Not at all. We’re sharing Footprint as one option, but you can use your existing lawyer, or other Will provider. The Retirement Commission’s Sorted website has some useful information about how to create a Will: https://sorted.org.nz/guides/protecting-wealth/wills/
